About Shell Cove
Shell Cove is a seaside suburb located within the City of Shellharbour, approximately 22 kilometers south of Wollongong's central business district. It is bordered by the suburbs of Shellharbour to the north, Flinders to the northwest, and Dunmore to the west and southwest. As of the 2021 Census, Shell Cove had a population of 7,591 residents.
History of Shell Cove
The area now known as Shell Cove has a rich Indigenous heritage, originally inhabited by the Wadi Wadi people of the Dharawal nation. The suburb's name reflects its coastal geography, with "Shell" referencing the nearby Shellharbour and "Cove" denoting its seaside location.
Significant development began in the late 20th century, transforming it into a residential and recreational hub. The Shell Cove Marina, a major infrastructure project, was completed in late 2021, enhancing the suburb's appeal.
